On Thursday, the Graham City Council approved an ordinance which will lower the wholesale water rate effective immediately during the April billing cycle.

The action addresses a pending appeal filed by the city’s wholesale customers to the Public Utility Commission of Texas and gives the city the opportunity to reevaluate water rates based on a year of data from the new water meters.

The city’s past water rate ordinance for wholesale customers is a flat rate of $6.35 per 1,000 gallons used. The new rate was lowered to $5.52 per 1,000 gallons used.

“Wholesale customers, with the grievance that they filed that is still pending, obviously our ultimate goal was to get more accurate usage and to be able to dial in this number,” Graham City Manager Brandon Anderson said. “This is a more dialed in number from the water rate study that was done and it is what we agreed to do on the last action item that we did at the last city council (meeting).”
