Constitutional Amendment Election, special elections to be held in November

Despite having no candidates on the ballot in the November election, Young County will still have a Constitutional Amendment election and be open for special called elections.

The last day for an entity to order a general election or an election on a measure is Monday, Aug. 19. There are 10 ballot measures which are certified for the ballot for the November election, according to Ballotpedia.

The last day to register to vote is Monday, Oct. 7. The first day of early voting is Monday, Oct. 21. Last day to apply for ballot by mail, received not postmarked, is Friday, Oct. 25. The last day of early voting is Friday, Nov. 1 and the last day to receive ballot by mail is Tuesday, Nov. 5 by 7 p.m.

Ballot measures approved in the 86th Legislative Session

- House Joint Resolution 38 proposes to prohibit state income tax on individuals. The measure replaces a statewide referendum requirement which is required for the legislature to enact an income tax on voters with a straight ban on placing income tax on individuals.

- Senate Joint Resolution 32 proposes an amendment to authorize a state agency or a county, municipality or other political subdivision to transfer a law enforcement animal to the animal’s handler or another qualified caretaker upon the animal’s retirement or at another time if the transfer is in the animal’s best interest.

- House Joint Resolution 12 proposes the authorization for the legislature to increase the maximum bond amount authorized for the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas. The resolution would allow the maximum amount of bonds to increase from $3 billion to $6 billion.

- House Joint Resolution 95 proposes the authorization of the legislature to exempt precious metal held in a precious metal depository from property taxation.

- House Joint Resolution 151 proposes an amendment allowing increased distributions to the available school fund. The measure would increase the maximum amount of revenue from $300 million to $600 million.

- House Joint Resolution 72 proposes an amendment to authorize a person to hold more than one office as an elected or appointed municipal judge in more than one municipality at the same time.
