The old U.S. 380 bridge over the Brazos River County will be featured in an upcoming Netflix feature film, The Highwaymen, after Young County commissioners approved use of the location Monday. The Highwaymen is directed by John Lee Hancock (The Rookie, The Alamo, The Blind Side, Saving Mr. Banks, The Founder), and is about two Texas Rangers (Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson) who come out of retirement to catch Bonnie and Clyde. In real life, the two rangers’ upon which the film is based did travel through this area, including stops at Archer City, Graham and Throckmorton. Despite primary filming taking place in Louisiana, the studio wanted some feature shots from Texas and the director remembered this area from his childhood. “He (Hancock) actually grew up working on a ranch outside of Archer City,” said Robbie Friedmann, location manager for Delivery Productions, LLC. “He loves this area and he really wanted to come here and try to film some of these roads.” However, no big name stars will be around for the scene in Young County, Friedmann said.
