For a third straight year, Young County nonprofits raised over $100,000 in donations through the Texoma Gives fundraiser on Thursday in partnership with the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation.

Texoma Gives is an area fundraiser where, for 16 hours, donations can be provided to nonprofits in a 24-county area. Young County joined 17 other North Texas counties and six Southern Oklahoma counties during the online giving day with over 200 registered non- profits.

Out of the 200 plus registered nonprofits, The Refuge in Olney, raised the third most estimated funds with a total of $122,720. This is third straight year that The Refuge placed in the top three in funds raised with over $100,000 raised each year. The Texoma organizations above the Refuge were the Wichita Christian School which raised over $140,000 and P.E.T.S. Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic which raised $123,065.

P.E.T.S. currently operates a satellite clinic in partnership with the Humane Society in Graham.

The Refuge is an outreach center targeting teens, families and adults in Olney and Young County with the purpose of teaching the gospel as it is presented in the bible, strengthening the community, supporting local churches and strengthening families.

Nonprofits signed up for free at www.texomagives.org and were listed online by county and nonprofit type both during the fundraising event and up to the event.

Organizations were required to be a 501c3 public charity located in the Texoma counties, which include Archer, Baylor, Clay, Childress, Cottle, Foard, Hardeman, Haskell, Jack, King, Knox, Montague, Stonewall, Throckmorton, Wichita, Wilbarger, Wise and Young counties.

The organizations could not be a church, booster club or parent teacher organization, but private schools, school foundations and tax deductible scholarship funds were welcome to participate.

In total, Young County organizations involved in the event raised $135,945 for community nonprofits.
