A public hearing to consider a tax abatement for a proposed hydrogen fuel cell production facility has been postponed. The meeting was originally scheduled for Feb. 14 at the Young County Courthouse. The postponement was announced by Young County Judge John Bullock.

Bullock cited scheduling issues with representatives of Plug Holding Company, LLC and Allison, Bass & Magee, LLP, who are representing Young County, in an email to The Graham Leader.

In an application dated Dec. 21, 2021, Plug Power, operating as Plug Project Holding Company, LLC, stated it is seeking a 100% abatement on an estimated taxable value of $281,375,000 in property. This includes electrolyzers, low-pressure gas storage, gas purification and liquefaction, water treatment, foundations, transformers, buildings and offices, parking, liquid hydrogen loading dock, an electrical substation, meteorological data system, telecommunications infrastructure, interior roads, lighting, security fencing and systems necessary for commercial hydrogen production.

If approved following the public hearing, the application states that construction would begin in the first quarter of 2022.
