The Young County Commissioners Court set Monday, March 28 as the rescheduled date for a public hearing in regards to a tax abatement application received from Plug Power, operating as Plug Project Holding Company, LLC. The public hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Young County Courthouse.

In an application dated Dec. 21, 2021, Plug Project Holding Co., LLC, stated it is seeking a 100% abatement on an estimated taxable value of $281,375,000 in property. If approved following the public hearing, the application states that construction would begin in the first quarter of 2022.

The abatement includes electrolyzers, low-pressure gas storage, gas purification and liquefaction, water treatment, foundations, transformers, buildings and offices, parking, liquid hydrogen loading dock, an electrical substation, meteorological data system, telecommunications infrastructure, interior roads, lighting, security fencing and systems necessary for commercial hydrogen production.

Young County Judge John Bullock said during a county meeting Jan. 24 that the proposed location is at FM 209 and Warren Road. The location was moved further west from its original proposed location due to what Bullock believes to be pushback from landowners in the area.
