As Graham heads toward the summer season people in the community will be looking for daily activities to partake in. The Cowboy Church of Young County is throwing their hat in the mix with their second annual Cowboys and Hotrods car show.
The event starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 17 and will run to 3 p.m. Families from across the community can come to the show to see the various hotrods displayed where entrants will be competing for a $1,000 grand prize.
It looks to be a diverse showing of vehicles as last year church pastor Cary Anderson said there were roughly 75 cars entered in the competition.
Outside of just the car show though, the Cowboy Church of Young County has other activities lined up including a bounce house for younger children, various food trucks such as one from the local Hatchet House restaurant in the town and various raffles.
Anderson said the catalyst for the church getting involved with an event like this was to attract younger generations of people back towards religious institutions.
“We just want people that feel okay to bring their kids. There is so much out there that is not good for our society,” Anderson said. “Sports (and other activities) have taken over Sundays and have pulled kids away from the church.”
Anderson emphasized that besides the event just being something fun for the family to do, the church wants to use the event as a way to draw people of the community closer to it. Church staff will be handing out bottles and other merchandise related to the church and they will also host singer Dale Rochelle.
Anderson hopes that by running the event for a second year and having new additions that the turnout will be even higher from last year. He estimated last year’s the turnout was around 150-200 people and the goal is to double that number this year.
