Editor’s Note: Due to press deadlines, the total results of the July Primary Runoff Election with election day voting numbers will be included in the weekend edition of The Graham Leader.

Early voting in the July Primary Runoff Election ended Friday with 260 early voters showing up to the polls. The election is the first in the county after COVID-19 restrictions were implemented and slowly loosened and tightened locally and statewide.

Early voting was weekdays starting on Monday, June 29 and running through Friday, July 10. The last day to register to vote in the election was Monday, June 15.

On the Republican ballot was a vote for Justice, 2nd Court of Appeals District, Place 7, between Brian Walker and Elizabeth Beach. On the Democratic ballot was a vote for U.S. Senator, between Royce West and Mary “MJ” Hegar and a vote for Railroad Commissioner, between Chrysta Castaneda and Roberto R. “Beto” Alonzo. No local candidates were on either ballot in the election.

The Young County Elections office took cautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the election. Elections Administrator Lauren Sullivan released a video on the county election Facebook page Wednesday, June 24, detailing what was new with the election.
