Early voting in the March primaries started slow in Young County with the Texas Secretary of State reporting 324 voters, or a 3.6% turnout from the 11,614 registered voters as of the end of Wednesday. Early voting throughout the state began Monday, Feb. 14 and will run for two weeks through Friday, Feb. 25.

On the March ballot is contested party runnings for both state and local seats in Young County. The last day to register to vote in the March election was Monday, Jan. 31. The last day to apply for a ballot by mail received, not postmarked, was Friday, Feb. 18.

Voter registration cards were distributed in Young County before early voting began, but a printing error on the date printed on the cards was reported by Young County Elections Administrator Kaitlyn Mosley.

“I’ve talked with the (SOS) Secretary of State, legal team. Their point of view on the voter registration cards are as long as your name, address and day of birth are correct the cards are fine,” Mosley wrote Feb. 14 on the county elections Facebook page. “I’ve had lots of phone calls today regarding the month being wrong and realized the printing company left off the first number of some months. [Example: November 15 = 1/15]. I will be sending out new cards no matter what after the primary election is over and everything is less crazy. I apologize for all the confusion. If you still have any questions or concerns please call the Elections office 940-521-9483 or Email k.mosley@youngcounty.org."
