Evening Lions Club bringing circus to town Thursday

Fri, 09/30/2022 - 11:01 am

After a two-year lapse due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Evening Lions Club is bringing the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus back to Graham next week. A portion of the ticket sales will benefit the club which provides an annual scholarship for a Graham High School senior and supports other community outreach.

Two shows will be held at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at the corner of Woody and Craig Street by the GHS Softball Fields. The circus has been in operation for 37 years and will be bringing a performance featuring big cats, trapeze artists, horse riders, tight rope walking, wheel tricks and circus clowns.

According to a previous article from The Graham Leader, the circus was a way for the club to be a companion piece to the annual Lions Club Carnival held as a fundraiser for the Noon Lions Club. Ramos said the event helps with fundraising for the organization and other efforts.

“It helps with our fundraising and to help with our various giving through the year, being our scholarship (and) (...) supporting various things that go on in town,” Ramos said.
