Filing deadline next week in May elections

The deadline to file for a place on one of the elections for the eight local taxing entities is next Friday with each entity. The elections will be held during the May 1 uniform election date, and are contracted through the Young County Election’s Office.

The city of Graham, Graham ISD, city of Olney, Olney ISD, Olney Hamilton Hospital, Newcastle ISD, city of Newcastle and Baylor County Water District are all having elected positions expiring May 1. The first day to file to be on the ballot was Wednesday, Jan. 13 for local political subdivisions. The last day to file to be on the election ballot will be Friday, Feb. 12, at 5 p.m. or until the close of the business for each entity.

The last day to register to vote in the May election will be Thursday, April 1, with the Young County Elections Office. To receive a ballot by mail, applications must be received, not postmarked, by the close of business Tuesday, April 20, to the Young County Elections Office. Applications can be mailed to ‘Young County Elections Administrator, Attention: Lauren Sullivan, 516 Fourth Street, Room B1, Graham, Texas 76450.’ Applications can also be faxed to Sullivan at 940-221-2104. Early voting will run from Monday, April 19, through Tuesday, April 27.
