Filing deadline tomorrow in May elections

Candidates have one day remaining to file for place on the May general election ballot for local political subdivisions. The city of Graham, Graham ISD, Graham Regional Medical Center, city of Olney, Olney ISD, Olney Hamilton Hospital, city of Newcastle and Newcastle ISD will have seats up for election.

The first day to file for a place on the general election ballot was Wednesday, Jan. 19, and the last day to file will be 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, or dependent on when the business closes. The last day to file a declaration as a write-in candidate will be Tuesday, Feb. 22.

Early voting in the election will be held from Monday, April 25 through Tuesday, May 3. Election day will be held Tuesday, May 7.

City of Graham

The city of Graham will have three places up for election in May which are the positions of mayor, held by Neal Blanton, and places 1 and 2 on the city council, held by Shana Weatherbee Wolfe and Alex Heartfield, respectively. Blanton is eligible for one more term as mayor of the city, while Heartfield and Wolfe are both eligible for reelection. As of Friday, only the three incumbents, Blanton, Wolfe and Heartfield, had filed for the positions.

Candidates must be a registered voter in Young County, reside within the city limits, complete an application for a place on the ballot and submit the application to the city secretary where the oath will be administered.

The city is accepting applications for a place on the ballot until 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18. Applications can be dropped off in person at City Hall in Graham, mailed or emailed. Applications can be addressed to Graham City Hall, Att: City Secretary, 612 Elm St., Graham, TX 76450. Applications can be emailed to smcfadden@grahamtexas.net.

Alongside the city election will be a special election for the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages, including mixed beverages within the city limits of Graham.
