With things beginning to heat up and the summer season approaching, that means one thing – the Food Truck Championship of Texas is on the horizon.

Over 50 food trucks will line the inside of the Graham downtown square for the event which kicks off Saturday, June 7.

With this being the 10th year for the event, the Visit Graham organization, which hosts the event, said it has grown into something of a tradition for the area.

“It brings so many people to town. It’s what we’re known for. It’s kind of our identity out in the world,” Visit Graham CEO Cathy Partridge said. “…It brings people back over and over, and it’s a great family gathering.”

Before the food truck event opens, the day begins at 7 a.m. with the annual Possum Pedal bike ride that starts at the intersection of Third Street and Oak Street.

The bike ride includes five routes of 6, 27, 40, 55 and 70 miles across Young County through Graham and Olney.

Registration for the bike ride can be completed online at bikereg.com. The cost for registration is $40 for adults, $30 for children and $75 for tandems.

The food truck event will open at 11 a.m. with visitors able to vote for their favorite truck to win the People’s Choice award. Votes can be cast through 2 p.m. June 7 on the Food Truck Championship of Texas app.

People’s Choice is one of 10 awards available for food trucks at the event, including a $10,000 grand champion prize.

The other awards include Best Signature Dish, Most Unique Menu, Best Dessert, Best BBQ, Best American Cuisine, Best International Dish, Best Truck Theme and Design and Best Food Truck Spirit.

Awards are determined by a panel of judges which this year are chefs Rose Goldberg and Stefon Rishel along with Richard King who was on the panel for the first food truck event.

Winners for the competition will be announced at 3 p.m. and the announcement will be moving to the new stage at the corner of Second Street and Oak Street.

The new food truck park area inside the square next to that stage will serve as the “Champions Court,” and feature previous grand champion food trucks.

Throughout the day there will be children’s activities and an art walk on the courthouse lawn with jewelry, artwork and collectibles from Texas artisans.

Food trucks will be packing up and leaving by 5 p.m. and a free concert featuring Josh Weathers will begin on the downtown square at later in the evening.

This free concert on the square will be in place of the annual concert that takes place at the Young County Arena, which was a ticket event.

Those who want to beat the rush of the Food Truck event Saturday can attend Friday Night Bites which is held Friday, June 6 on the downtown square and feature around 20 food trucks.
