Gear Up Graham to provide school supplies, more Sunday

For a fourth year in a row the Eastside Church of Christ will host their annual Gear Up Graham event on Sunday, Aug. 5, from 5-7 p.m.

The event is designed to get students prepared for the upcoming school year which begins Aug. 15. The church plans on giving out school supplies, haircuts, toiletries and undergarments like socks and underwear.

Nellie Caddell, one of the coordinators of the event, said she had taken the idea from a church she used to attend and wanted to implement the program in Graham.
“I actually came from a church in Decatur that held a gear up event there,” Caddell said. “ When we moved here, we saw it was something that Eastside could take on and now we’re in our fourth year.”
