Lexie Williams, a GHS graduate and 2017 homecoming queen, was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer which affects a part of the immune system called the lymphatic system. Williams has now started a crowdfunding campaign to help her pay for her medical expenses.

“I recently visited the doctor to get some unexplained lumps examined on my neck. The results didn’t come back exactly how I would expect,” Williams said in a Facebook post. “My doctor has now unofficially diagnosed me with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.”

Williams said she had a bone marrow biopsy done which will tell her doctors if the cancer is reacting with her bone marrow. She also went into surgery on Friday to have a lymph node removed to get a complete diagnosis and a port put in for chemotherapy.

She said she is raising money because she would like to have eggs extracted so she can have children later in life and for chemotherapy as both are not covered by her insurance.

Williams, who plans to start treatment in March, has set a goal on her fundraiser of $7,000 despite knowing she will likely need more. She had raised $3,820 as of press time and if someone wishes to donate they can do so by going to her account at www.facebook.com/lexiewilliams.07
