The Graham ISD Board of Trustees rejected a request for approval to change the name of the Young County Appraisal District. The move was suggested to clear up confusion, until the board can discuss the cost estimate to the district of the change. The formal request for a name change to “Young Central Appraisal District” was made Oct. 10 by Young County Judge John Bullock and ratified by the Commissioners Court Oct. 23 with a 4-0 vote (one commissioner was absent). The name change is meant to clear up misunderstandings about who conducts appraisals. “To better reflect the interest of such legislation and clarify misunderstanding in the general public associating the Central Appraisal District as being under the jurisdiction of Young County Local Government by and through the commissioners court hereof,” the resolution seeking the change stated. All associated costs for the name change would be split across the taxing entities, GISD Superintendent Sonny Cruse said. Cruse reached out to Young County Chief Appraiser Luke Robbins, who was not opposed to the name change, and Robbins said he didn’t think the cost would be substantial due to the fact that most of the CAD’s correspondence already reads Young CAD or YCAD.
