The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program for children will run through the month of June. The healthy summer meals program provides children and teens in low-income areas with free meals when the school year has finished.

The meal program is open to the public and held at no cost for children 18 and younger. In Graham, the program will be held at Crestview Elementary School from 7-8 a.m. for breakfast and 11 a.m. to Noon for lunch June 1-29. The program will be held within the building and not via curbside pickup this year. GISD Food Services Director Jodi Arispe said the program helps children and teens in the community who might be without food in June.

“A lot of times (...) when school meals end children are sometimes left home alone with empty pantries and refrigerators. This way, if they can find transportation or if they can walk or if they can ride their bike they are still offered meals even if they are not in summer school. This is not just for the enrolled summer school children. This is for everyone 18 and under,” Arispe said.
