As we enter the heart of flu season Nurse Practitioner Teresa McGuinnes at Graham Medical Associates gave tips on how to avoid the virus and being proactive if the flu develops.

The family nurse practitioner said  she saw nearly 30 patients with flu during a five hour period on Monday.

“Right now, it is school aged kids because if they go to day care or school, all the people are in close quarters and I have seen a lot (of children).” McGuinnes said.

She said some of the most common symptoms of the flu include headache, body-aches, runny nose, post nasal drainage, sore throat and fever. McGuiness added she has seen those who have had nausea and vomiting with the flu and often time those patients also have strep throat.
