An Eliasville man was arrested after fleeing on foot following a multi-agency vehicle pursuit that began in Graham and ended in Mineral Wells.
Cameron Young, 18, turned himself in on Wednesday, May 13 and was booked into the Young County Jail where he remained as of Thursday, May 15 on a $100,000 bond for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.
Graham Police Department was seeking information fleeing arrest on foot Monday, May 11 in Mineral Wells, which led to reports being made and Young turning himself in on a warrant.
A GPD officer initiated a traffic stop around 9 p.m. on two vehicles near the intersection of Hwy. 380 and Cliff Drive in Graham.
One of the two vehicles, a black SUV, accelerated away from the officer after almost impacting a white car driving on the roadway.
The officer pursued the SUV, which continued to accelerate and reach speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour. The pursuit traveled through Graham on Hwy. 16 South, past the county line on Hwy. 337 South through Graford and then to Hwy. 180 East in Mineral Wells.
The driver stopped the vehicle near Travis St. in Mineral Wells, with four occupants inside. One occupant exited near the Allsup’s convenience station on Hwy. 180 while the driver fled on foot after coming to a stop near Travis St.
“The two other occupants remained near the vehicle after it stopped and were detained by a Graham police officer. A Department of Public Safety trooper immediately located the occupant who had previously exited the vehicle and that occupant was detained,” City Manager Eric Garretty said in a release.
The city manager said the three occupants were detained by law enforcement and later released without any charges.
Law enforcement with GPD, DPS, Young County Sheriff’s Office, Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Office, Mineral Wells Police Department and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department initiated a search for the driver who fled into a pasture.
“Mr. Young is currently suspected of ‘Evading Arrest and Detention with a Vehicle’ and the city of Graham is currently processing an affidavit pursuant to a request for a warrant to arrest Mr. Young on the suspected charge,” Garretty said in the release.
Mineral Wells PD put out a notice on its social media page during the pursuit stating that they did not believe that Young posed a threat to the public and did not believe he possessed any weapons.
“We appreciate the continued dedication, teamwork, and professionalism of all agencies involved in keeping our communities safe. If anyone has information, please contact local law enforcement,” MWPD said.
GPD thanked all agencies involved with the pursuit.
“GPD wishes to thank the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Young County Sheriff’s Office, the Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Office, the Mineral Wells Police Department and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for their assistance and professionalism during this dangerous incident,” Garretty said in the release. “This incident could have easily ended in tragedy given the reckless conduct of Mr. Young. Due to the professionalism and superior tactics of these law enforcement Agencies no one was injured.”
