Graham Area United Way kicked off their fundraising campaign Tuesday by announcing they had met 46% of their $100,000 goal with $46,553.12 raised. GAUW is a non-profit organization that collects money each year which this year will go toward ten local agencies.

The slogan chosen this year by the GAUW board is ‘They need us...We need you,’ stressing the importance of giving in the campaign this year, according to Campaign Chair Eddy Neal who spoke Tuesday.

“I think that (slogan) is pretty accurate this year because we don’t know what’s coming. We know what we have been through the last seven months. (...) It’s a tough year, but I want to appreciate everybody that is involved,” Neal said. “It’s tough. Nobody likes going out and asking for money that I know of. It’s just not natural, but that’s what United Way does and we just try to get as many people, as many businesses as we can to ask them for donations and pledges and then at the end of the year we return that money to the agencies. Big thing (is) we do not send any money anywhere else. What we raise stays in Graham.”
