The Lady Blues basketball team will host its annual summer basketball camp next month with sessions available for incoming first through ninth graders.
The camp will take place June 1-3 in the Graham High School. Newly hired head coach Preston Hodge will run the camp, which will be split into two sessions divided by grade levels. The total cost for the camp is $50 per athlete.
Incoming first through fifth graders will participate in the first session from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. Incoming sixth through ninth graders will follow from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Each camper will receive a free camp shirt.

Tennis camp coming up
As with other Graham High School sports, the GHS tennis program is gearing up for its summer tennis camp.
This year’s camp will run June 1-3 on the GHS tennis courts. Coach Matt Birdwell will run the camp, split into sessions for incoming first through fifth graders and incoming sixth through ninth graders.
At the GHS tennis camp, participants will learn the fundamentals of the game from Coach Birdwell.
Newcomers to the game are welcome with rackets available for participants who do not own one. Each participant will be expected to arrive in tennis shoes and advised to bring plenty of water.

Newcastle ISD preparing for summer workouts
The Bobcats and Ladycats are preparing for a summer of workouts and looking for feedback from Newcastle ISD athletes.
Workouts will take place in two-hour blocks in June and July, with June workouts led by coaches and athletes expected to lead July workouts. Each session may include strength and conditioning, speed and agility, and sport-specific training.
An availability survey can be found online in the Newcastle ISD Facebook page.
The survey is intended for incoming seventh through 12th grade Newcastle ISD athletes only. Time blocks that the athletic program are looking at include 6-8 a.m., 7-9 a.m., 8-10 a.m., 5-7 p.m. or 6-8 p.m. Sessions are expected to run Monday through Thursday each week.
The athletic program states its goal with this summer’s program is to create opportunities for athletes and families to grow together while preparing for the upcoming season.
NISD athletes head to state this week
Newcastle High School will be represented this week when the state’s top track athletes compete at the 2026 UIL Track & Field State Meet, which takes place May 14-16 in Austin.
Camren Mallory and Allison Melton will compete at the state meet after finishing in the top-two in the 100-Meter Hurdles and 3200-Meter Run, respectively, at the 1A Region III meet, which took place May 1-2 in Waco.
Additionally, Aubree Clayton will be going as a wildcard at the state meet after her third-place high jump performance.
The 1A schools will compete in the state meet Saturday, May 16.
