A Graham girl was hospitalized with serious injuries from a rollover wreck near Abilene that left another child dead. According to DPS spokesman Sgt. Frederick Biddle, the 10-year-old Graham girl was injured after the minivan carrying her and six other people blew a tire. The 2005 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, driven by Ana Maria Gonzalez, 40, of Graham, was traveling west on I-20, between Colorado City and Westbrook, around 8 p.m. Tuesday when the left rear tire apparently blew out. The van then skidded sideways, sliding into the ditch, then rolling several times. The seven people in the minivan included Gonzales and three Graham children: a boy, age 2, and girls ages 15 and 10, as well as a 42-year-old Brownwood woman and two girls from that town, ages 14 and 13. That 14-year-old, Belen Martinez, was not wearing a seatbelt. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants suffered serious injuries and were transported to area hospitals -- Margarita Martinez, 42, of Brownwood was taken to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, while Joselyn Renteriaz, 10, of Graham was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock. DPS said Martinez was wearing her seatbelt, but Renteriaz was not. In addition, the Graham 15-year-old was treated at then released from the Mitchell County Hospital in Colorado City. The investigation into the accident continues, and no further information on it is available yet, Biddle said.
