Graham ISD, parents prepare for Aug. 16 school start

With the end of summer fast approaching, students and parents will have to begin their preparations for the upcoming 2017-18 Graham ISD school year. The first day of school is almost four weeks out and will be on Wednesday, Aug. 16. Bell schedules for each campus are as follows: • Pioneer Elementary - 7:45 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. • Crestview Elementary - 7:55 a.m. - 3:25 p.m. • Woodland Elementary - 7:55 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. • Graham Junior High School - 7:55 a.m. - 3:35 p.m. • Graham High School - 7:55 a.m. - 3:35 p.m. • Graham Learning Center - 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. Pre-K and Kindergarten enrollment Pre-K and Kindergarten registration will be Aug. 1-4 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Pioneer Elementary. Each program has specific requirements for student enrollment. For Kindergarten, the children enrolled must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, to be admitted to the program. On the day of registration parents are required to bring an original birth certificate or certified copy with certificate number issued by the state, the child’s immunization records, the child’s social security card (if available), proof of residency in Graham ISD (water, gas, electric bill or lease) and the parent’s drivers license. For Pre-K, the children enrolled must be 4 years of age by Sept. 1, and meet an eligibility requirement as determined by Texas law, with no exceptions. Those requirements include the child is unable to speak and comprehend the English language and are Limited English Proficiency, the child is economically disadvantaged, the child is homeless, the child has a parent of official guardian that is an active duty member of the Armed Forces of the United States or the child has a parent or the child has a parent of guardian that was injured or killed while serving active duty in the Armed Forces or a reserved component of the Armed Forces. If the child has ever been in conservatorship (foster care) of the Department of Family and Protective Services, or in a conservatorship as a result of an adversary hearing they may also be eligible. This includes children returned to hold, kinship placement and adoptions. On the day of registration for Pre-K, parents or guardians should bring a certified birth certificate of the child, a current immunization record of the child, proof of residency in Graham ISD (water, gas, electric bill or lease), a photo ID of the parent and a social security card for the child, if available. If applying based on educationally economically disadvantaged the parent must also bring a payroll check stub, current pay envelope or letter from their employer stating gross wages paid and how often they are paid. Acceptable documentation for self-paid employees is last year’s tax returns, business or farming documents such as ledge books or self-issued paycheck stubs. Military documentation will be necessary if applying based on military status of the parent and proper documentation will also be required for those applying based on the child being in foster care of the Department of Family and Protective Services. School supplies For an updated listing of all the school supplies needed at each campus in Graham ISD, visit grahamisd.com, and on each campus website will be a supplies listing. On Sunday, Aug. 6, at 6:30 p.m., Eastside Church of Christ will host Gear up Graham for a third year. At this event, students will be able to get free backpacks, school supplies, haircuts and at the event will also be dinner and games. For questions about the event call 940-549-0217. Meet the Teacher Meet the Teacher nights will be spread out on three separate days starting with Graham Junior High School first on Monday, Aug. 14, and ending with Graham High School on Thursday, Aug. 17. • Graham Junior High School - Monday, Aug. 14, from 5-6 p.m. at GJHS. • Pioneer Elementary (Pre-K and Kindergarten) - Tuesday, Aug. 15, from 4-5 p.m. at Pioneer Elementary. • Crestview Elementary - Tuesday, Aug. 15, from 5-6 p.m. at Crestview Elementary. • Woodland Elementary - Tuesday, Aug. 15, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Woodland Elementary. • Graham High School - Thursday, Aug. 17, from 5-6 p.m. at GHS.
