Two Graham residents are safe following a forced landing of a helicopter on the shores of Kauai, Hawaii last week.
Shana and Troy Wolfe, of Graham, were passengers along with a couple from California aboard a sight-seeing helicopter tour Tuesday, Feb. 27.
According to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) preliminary incident report, the aircraft experienced engine issues and made a forced landing on the shores of Kauai, Hawaii. Minor injuries were reported for the four passengers and by the solo member of the flight crew.
The company for the tour was Jack Harter Helicopters, which made a statement on their social media page Saturday, March 2. The post stated the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing on Honopu Beach.
“Regretfully, at least one of the passengers sustained injuries. We express our care and concern for all on board that day. We were heartened to learn that the injured passenger has been released from the hospital,” the company stated.
The company stated that following the landing they notified and cooperated with all federal and local government officials and agencies which were the National Transportation Safety Board, FAA, State Department of Land and Natural Resources, County of Kauai, police and fire and rescue.
“We wish to extend our appreciation and aloha for all of the efforts and support during this time. With the community’s assistance, we were able to get immediate care and treatment to those on board, and to remove the wreckage within 24 hours to limit any damage or harm to the environment,” the company stated. “We will continue all of our efforts and energies in this regard.”
