Graham sales tax rebates stay consistent

The city of Graham saw a drop of 3.64 percent in the amount of sales taxes returned to the city for December, and year-to-date the city’s rebates are down 6.35 percent. Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $627.6 million in local sales tax allocations for December, 0.2 percent more than in December 2015. These allocations are based on sales made in October by monthly filers. “The cities of Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, El Paso and San Antonio continue to see significant increases in sales tax allocations,” Hegar said. “The cities of Houston, Sugar Land and Plano saw noticeable decreases in sales tax allocations.” Graham’s rebate this month, based on sales made in October by by monthly filers, was $168,670.82, down from the $175,055.53 rebate during the same month last year. In addition, the city’s year-to-date rebates total $2,245,878.71, down from the $2,398,214.44 accumulated during the same period last year, a drop of $152,334.73 for the year 2015. Olney’s rebate this month was up 6.4 percent from a year ago, to $25,880.73, and year-to-date, that city’s total has also risen, by 4.53 percent, from $313,908.18 to $300,284.16. Newcastle, which began collecting a higher sales tax rate April 1 (1.5 percent, up from 1 percent), also has seen its collections rise, by 36.78 percent this month, to $6,184.24, and 23.64 percent year-to-date, to $68,228.56. Young County’s sales tax came to $71,252.00 this month, up 10.64 percent from the same month last year. The county’s year-to-date total, however, is down, by 6.7 percent, to $994,476.45.
