Hell’s Gate Bass Club kicks off season

The Hell’s Gate Bass Club has held its first two bass tournaments of the 2019 season with Barry Wehunt and Barry Smith finishing in first in the two tournaments.

Mike Hallford, with Hell’s Gate Bass Club, said the first tournament took place on Jan. 17. Wehunt, of Milsap, finished with five fish weighing a combined 23.26 pounds for the first place finish. Bud Boensich, of Graham came in second by hauling in 21.88 pounds of fish.

Hallford said the Feb. 17 tournament had 28 participate and even better results in reeling in fish. Smith, a Possum Kingdom Lake resident, finished with a total 31.45 pounds of fish caught. Russell Tongate finished in second with 20.45 pounds of fish caught. While Johnny Hicks reeled in Big Bass honors by catching a 10.64 pound lunker.
