Honduran man charged with smuggling of persons

One man was arrested and seven others were detained Sunday following a traffic stop at Hwy. 114 and Hwy. 16. Terry Israel Oliva-Reyes, 32, of Honduras, was arrested and charged with smuggling of persons.

According to a press release from the Young County Sheriff’s Office, the group was pulled over in a silver Honda SUV for a traffic violation at approximately 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 24. An investigation revealed the driver, identified as Oliva-Reyes, was smuggling seven individuals into the country illegally.

"The individuals were picked up in Hobbs, N.M. and were being transported to DFW and other locations east,” YCSO Chief Deputy John Orr wrote. “The individuals paid large amounts of money to be smuggled to their specific locations. All (eight) individuals were taken into custody.”

Rosa Maria Casrejone, 25; Sergia Encarnacion, 19; Alexi Omar Mancia Garcia, 21; Julio Cesar Garcia, 21; Carlos Edilson Ramirez-Azanoin, 18; Angie Veronica Ramirez, 22; and Alfonso Ruiz Santos, 32, were identified in the Young County Jail Report on Sunday, July 24 as the seven that were detained. All seven individuals are from Guatemala.
