A law enforcement interlocal agreement between Young County and the city of Olney has finally been put into effect after issues with original wording of the document.

The interlocal agreement places a Young County Sheriff’s Office deputy in Olney during his regular shift. Olney PD currently has one full time officer as they continue to rebuild following a sexual harassment scandal involving acting police Robert Michael Cross in March. At the Young County Commissioner’s Court meeting on July 23, Conny Clay, chief civilian administrator, said he hopes the department will only need two to three months to get new officers but would be willing to take longer if it means they hire the correct people.

The city of Olney and Young County had been in a disagreement over the wording involving a liability clause. Young County Commissioners’ Court voted on July 23, to execute the original document which included the liability wording. The city of Olney, who does not what the wording included, tabled their vote on the original document.
