As the Internal Revenue Service begins to distribute stimulus payments, they have opened a website for those who have not filed taxes for 2018 or 2019 and will launch a website application for those that would like to add their banking information and track their payment.

The Economic Impact Payment is rolling out to all U.S. citizens or resident aliens that have a valid Social Security number, could not be claimed as a dependent of another taxpayer and had adjusted gross income under certain limits, according to the IRS website.

A “non-filer” is defined on the IRS website as someone who did not have a gross income that exceeded $12,200 for 2019 or who were not required to file for 2019 and didn’t plan to. These individuals can go to the IRS website to enter payment information to receive their Economic Impact Payment.

According to the IRS website, those that are non-filers looking to receive payment will need to know their full name, current mailing address, an email address, date of birth, valid social security number, bank account number and type, routing number (if applicable),  the Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) which was received from the IRS earlier this year (if you have one), and a driver’s license or state-issued ID (if you have one).

For qualifying children, a name, Social Security number or Adoption Taxpayer Identification Number and their relationship to the individual, will be required.

In addition to the non-filer website, the IRS and U.S. Department of Treasury are launching a “Get My Payment” web application this week. The link is now active at irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment.

According to a press release by the U.S. Department of Treasury, this is a free app that will allow those who have paid their taxes in 2018 or 2019 to add their banking information to set up direct deposit. This will allow their Economic Impact Payment to be put into their account rather than waiting for a paper check to arrive in the mail.

To add your bank information, individuals will need to provide their adjusted gross income from their most recent tax return submitted, their refund or amount owed from that tax return and the bank account type with account and routing numbers.

“Get My Payment” will also allow taxpayers to track their payment. To track the status of a payment, basic information like Social Security number, date of birth and mailing address will need to be entered into the “Get My Payment” app.

For individuals who filed 2018 or 2019 tax returns with direct deposit information or those who receive Social Security, do not need to take any action. The Economic Impact Payment will automatically deposited in their bank accounts.
