Three juveniles were involved in a 50-mile vehicle pursuit early Sunday which started in Young County and ended outside Wichita Falls in Lakeside City. The pursuit involved the Young County Sheriff’s Office, Olney Police Department, Archer City Police Department, Archer County Sheriff’s Office and DPS.

At 12:36 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, a YCSO deputy attempted to stop a white 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup for a traffic violation while heading west of Graham on U.S. Hwy. 380. The vehicle accelerated to speeds over 100 mph.

The deputy continued to pursue the vehicle west towards Newcastle where another deputy deployed a spike strip to attempt to disable the vehicle. The deployment flattened the front driver’s side tire, but the driver continued to flee and turned onto Hwy. 251 South and reached speeds over 100 mph.

The vehicle continued through Olney into Archer County on Hwy. 79 South where additional attempts were made to deploy spike strips, but were unsuccessful. The vehicle continued north through Archer City until it reached Lakeside City where another deployment of spike strips disabled the vehicle.

No injuries were reported in the pursuit that lasted over 50 miles and 40 minutes before stopping in Archer County. The vehicle was occupied by three juveniles ages 16, 13 and 12. The juveniles were taken into custody and charged with theft of property over $2,500, under $30,000; evading in a motor vehicle; unauthorized use of motor vehicle; and engaging in organized criminal activity.

According to a release from Graham Police Department Chief Brent Bullock, GPD officers were dispatched to the YCSO to speak with a victim in reference to unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The victim reported some had stolen their 2002 Chevrolet pickup from a residence in the 1100 block of Morningside Avenue.

“Officers knew that this vehicle was involved in a pursuit, outside the city limits, in the early morning of 10/02/2022, involving Young County Deputies. The pickup was recovered and was being held by Young County,” Bullock wrote.

The victim reported to GPD officers that the pickup was parked at a residence in the 1100 block of Morningside Avenue on Saturday, Oct. 1, and was noticed missing the next day.

According to the victim, they learned about the pickup's involvement in the pursuit when they contacted Young County Dispatch to report the pickup missing.
