Keep Graham Beautiful has begun an online survey seeking community input regarding the water tank on top of Standpipe Mountain in Graham. The non-operational water tank is currently atop the hill for aesthetic purposes, but due to safety concerns needs to be repaired, replaced or removed from its current location.

The KGB organization is an all-volunteer service organization in Graham which organizes activities to clean up the city. The organization is coordinated by a nine-member board of directors and works in partnership with the Graham Public Works Department and city of Graham. The three-question online survey will be online for the next 30-40 days, according to KGB president J.W. Budge. He said the organization thinks it is important to maintain the mountain as a unique part of the community of Graham.

“Standpipe Mountain has been part of this community since its very inception. The community for years and years and years have used that mountain for recreational purposes. It’s our position as the KGB and many of the local folks that we need to maintain that mountain as a recreational entity within the city. After all, how many citizens have a mountain in their backyard,” Budge said.

The survey can be found here, which will have a short history of Standpipe Mountain and a brief description of the situation regarding the tank.
