LCS: Five seats contested in 2020 primaries

With filing for the March 2020 primaries ending Dec. 9, seats in Palo Pinto County which will see contested races are District Attorney, District Clerk, Tax Assessor-Collector, County Attorney and Constable Pct 5.

Candidate filing for the March 3, 2020 Primary Election opened Saturday, Nov. 9.

According to Assistant Elections Administrator Savannah Trevino, Palo Pinto County offices up for election were Constable Pct. 1, Constable Pct. 2, Constable Pct. 3, Constable Pct. 4, Constable Pct. 5, County Commissioner Pct. 1, County Commissioner Pct. 3, Sheriff, County Tax Assessor-Collector, 29th Judicial District Attorney and 29th District Judge.

Filing was also open for the unexpired terms of the County Attorney and District Clerk.

To file, candidates should have contacted the chairperson of the party of their choice.

The Palo Pinto County Republican Party Chairwoman is Barbara Upham.

According to Trevino, incumbent District Attorney Kriste Burnett and a challenger, Kristina Massey, have filed for the seat. Those running for Janie Glover’s unexpired District Clerk seat are Sherry Roberson, Stacy Frye and Jonna Banks. Incumbent Tax Assessor-Collector Stacy Choate will be challenged by Stephanie Dunn. Interim County Attorney Meagan Kositha will be challenged by Cynthia Dilliard Ince. Frank Baker will challenge incumbent Scott Mitcham for the Constable Pct. 5 seat.

The Palo Pinto County Democratic Party Chairwoman is Carla Schoonover.

Trevino said no Democrats filed for the 2020 primaries.
