LCS: Grass fire off Hell’s Gate Drive

A 50-acre fire which broke out on the SET Ranch Tuesday afternoon proved difficult to extinguish.
“Luckily the wind wasn’t blowing too bad, but it was really rugged and really, really rough terrain,” Possum Kingdom Volunteer Fire Department Chief Information Officer Craig Hutson said. “There were a lot of places that we just couldn’t even get to because it was so rough. We basically had to sit back and wait for it come to us.”
Hutson said the PK VFD sent four apparatuses and 12 firefighters out to the scene located on Hell’s Gate Drive about two miles off of Hwy. 16. Graford, Caddo and Palo Pinto fire departments also responded to the scene.
“A big shout-out to the mutual aid and the other units that responded,” Hutson said. “The thing that makes this county strong is, when we have an incident like that, people come from all over the county to help. A big thank you from PK Volunteer Fire Department to all the mutual aid units that showed up on scene and helped out.”
According to the Palo Pinto County blotter, the first fire department arrived on scene around 4 p.m. and the scene was not declared cleared until around 10:30 p.m.
