The 10th annual North Texas Giving Day, on Sept. 20, produced a record-setting $50 million plus on 169,464 donations for 2,988 North Texas organizations.

North Texas Giving Day was an area fundraiser where for 18 hours, donations were provided to organizations in a 20-county area. Palo Pinto County joined 19 other North Texas counties during the online giving day with nearly 3,000 registered nonprofits. The $50 million surpassed the $48 million the event produced last year and brings the 11-year total to over $290 million. The more than 160,000 donations came from all 50 states and 25 countries.

This year was the second year where donors could pledge volunteers hours and over 620,000 hours were committed to from over 16,000 donors. Last year, 430,000 hours were committed to.

Three Palo Pinto non-profits participated in the event; Meals on Wheels of Palo Pinto County, Children’s Alliance Center for Palo Pinto County and Palo Pinto Mountains State Park Partners from Strawn.

The three organizations each raised over $300. Palo Pinto Mountains State Park Partners raised $336 on five donations, Meals on Wheels raised $631 on three donations and Children’s Alliance Center raised $657 on three gifts.

Five organizations in the event raised over $500,000 each. North Texas Food Bank raised $805,999, Children’s Medical Center Foundation raised $700,968, Texas Health Resources Foundation raised $614,321, The Salvation Army of North Texas raised $567,469 and Denison Forum raised $521,361.

Former Dallas Mavericks player Dirk Nowitzki and his wife Jessica served as this year’s honorary chairs for the fundraising event

“What a team. To the residents, neighbors and friends of North Texas, you did it,” the Nowitzki’s said in a thank you video. “You have proven the power of generosity and made history on North Texas Giving Day. Thank you for your incredible support of the thousands of nonprofits in the North Texas region. Your donations will fund critically important work and will have last impacts improving lives of our neighbors.”
