LCS: Possum Fest celebrates 25 years with successful event

The 25th annual Possum Fest & Great Outdoors BBQ and Chili Cook-Off  raised plenty of money for the Possum Kingdom Chamber of Commerce this Friday and Saturday.

The event saw a total of 91 cook and 381 dish entries which up was from last year’s 89 cook and 339 dish entries. Awards were handed out for the top five in the Possum Nibble, margarita, brisket, chili, ribs, beans, pork butt, salsa, bloody mary and cobbler categories. Best showmanships awards were also handed out to a business and individual.

The event also had 22 teams of two show up for the inaugural corn hole tournament which a had $400 payout to first place.

Friday night saw the kick-off of the corn hole tournament, the appetizers and margarita competition take place and the band Playin’ Possum took the stage.

The live auction took place on Saturday afternoon with many items up for bid including Cowboy tickets, NASCAR tickets, a grill, private meals and much more. The live auction raised $16,615 and the silent auction was also hosted and raised $10,091 for the chamber.

A raffle for a Lyfe Tyme portable smoker on a trailer was held with a Monte McGimpsey being drawn as the winner after the event. Tickets were sold for $20. Raffle tickets were also sold for lottery tickets.

The chamber will use the proceeds for upkeep of their building as well as events they put on including Trunk or Treat, the East Egg Scramble and Christmas with Santa.
