The 25th annual Possum Fest & Great Outdoors BBQ and Chili Cook-Off will be Friday and Saturday at the Possum Kingdom Chamber of Commerce.

For the first time, the event will feature a cornhole tournament. The tournament will consist of 64 two person teams with a double elimination format on Friday evening starting at 5 p.m. The finals will take place in a single elimination format starting at 9 a.m. Saturday. All entries will be $35 and must be at least 14-years-old with one adult member above 18-years-old on each team.

“A total of $700 will be paid out,” Pam Wheat, Possum Kingdom Chamber, of Commerce Director said. “So, $400 will go to first place, $200 for second and $100 for third.”

The barbecue event will kick off with the band Playin’ Possum performing live music from 8 to 11 p.m., the appetizers and margaritas competition and the silent auction will also start on Friday.

On Saturday, there will be vendor booths, a silent auction from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a live auction at 4 p.m. The brisket, chili, ribs, pork butt, beans, salsa, bloody mary and cobbler will also be judged. The cook-off and raffle drawing winners will be announced after the live auction.

Wheat said she is hoping the community will show up to the silent auction because that is the way the chamber is able to raise funds.

“I want emphasize that we really want people to visit because the way that we make money is people bidding on the silent auction and the live auction,” Wheat said.”(…)Some items that we have in the live auction this year are Dallas Cowboy tickets, a kayaks and an airplane ride. In the silent auction is home decor, gift cards to restaurants, overnight stays and things like that.”
