Local man accepts 55-year prison sentence in drug case

A Young County man was sentenced to 55 years in state prison after a jury found him guilty July 20 of possession of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver. In a trial that lasted less than a day, Lawrence Wayne Fields was convicted in 90th District Court of the charge of possession of controlled substance with the intent to deliver, 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams of methamphetamine According to District Attorney Dee Peavy, Fields then agreed to a sentencing agreement that capped his imprisonment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 55 years. In exchange, he waived his rights to appeal the verdict and sentencing. The State of Texas was represented by Phillip Gregory, assistant district attorney for the 90th Judicial District.
