Graham playwright Jiggs Burgess’ “The Red Suitcase” was named Best Play in the 2021 Writers Search contest from the Del Shores Foundation. On top of a $3,000 cash award, Burgess’ play has been sent out to theater partners to be produced and covered for $10,000.

The Del Shores Foundation’s mission statement is to find and facilitate the development of new southern United States LGBTQ+ artistic voices by coordinating artists and working professionals, prompting new works and connecting artists to platforms for their work.

“That’s the goal of this, to build the networks for the winners, for all of the people who contribute in our further and future programing,” Del Shores Foundation Program Director Emerson Collins said in a livestream announcing the winners. “(...) you will continue seeing these writers. We want you to meet them and know them (...) so that they continue to have opportunities as a result of what we are doing here.”
