Students from Young County 4-H took home individual and team awards in the Junior Division of the Range and Pasture Identification Contest at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.

Cooper Pitcock won first place individual in the Junior Division and the team of Cooper, Ace and Tucker Pitcock, coached by John Paclik, won second place team in the Junior Division.

The winning junior team was Stephens County 4-H with members Sarah Moreno, Chole Tait, Evelyn Hilari and Lydia Moreno, coached by Jerry Corbett.

The winning team in each division received a plaque, and gold, silver and bronze medals were presented to the top 10 individual winners.

During the contest students were asked to identify a range of plants from more than 120 on the master plant list of range and pasture plants adaptable to Texas conditions, according to a release. The students had 45 seconds to identify, write the common name and check the characteristics of each plant.

The contest was held at the Botanical Research Institute of Texas, adjacent to the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo grounds. The contest was open to 4-H and FFA teams and individuals from across the state.

In the Junior Division are students in third grade through high school freshman, while high school sophomores through seniors competed in the senior division at the competition.
