Man dies in YCSO deputy-involved shooting

A Graham man died Sunday night after a shooting incident involving a Young County Sheriff's deputy.

Deputies arrived to the scene on Red Top Road at 8:04 p.m., Sunday, June 27 for a welfare check according to the Young County blotter. According to a release from DPS Sgt. Dan Buesing, the deputy was advised that the subject, Stephen Winder, 39, was suicidal and had a gun on the property.

Winder was shot by the deputy during contact and was transported to Graham Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The body has been transported to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner for autopsy. When reached for comment, YCSO Sheriff Travis Babcock said he was unable to release any other information at this time due to the ongoing Texas Rangers investigation.

The unidentified deputy has been put on administrative leave during the investigation. The case is an ongoing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
