Mataska to replace retiring Huffman at GMA
With Doctor Hal Huffman set to retire from Graham Medical Associates by the end of July, Doctor Jared Mataska will take over his practice on Aug. 1.
Mataska said he grew up in the Wichita Falls area and graduated from Petrolia High School. The doctor said he did the majority of his undergraduate and medical training in Lubbock at Texas Tech University.
“I signed with GMA about a year and a half ago, so this has kind of been the plan for a little while,” the doctor said. “Being from the region, Graham was always, one, just beautiful and two, their academics, their athletic program, everything about the school system was top notch from my standpoint and my wife being a school teacher for several years knew the same thing. Graham was always a pretty cool place to think about ending up.”
Mataska said he has been married to his wife, Katy, for eight years and the couple has two children, Dodger, 5, and Dax, 3. He added he is excited to be back in a rural community and able to shoot his guns, hunt and fish.
Mataska will take over all of Huffman’s patients who wish to continue with the new doctor.
“I have already met a few of those in the hospital, throughout the clinic and different things over the last six months,” he said. “Hopefully we can start attracting the younger generation as well and new families with young kids. Even those that are planning on having families soon, because I plan on living here and dying here this is where I want to be. So, growing with those families has always been one of my biggest motivations.”
Mataska said he has been working with the retiring Huffman and has learned a lot from him.
