Spanning over 50 years, the Meals on Wheels program in Graham has delivered meals to those in the community who required them. Due to COVID-19 and other factors the organization is looking for funding to make up for the rising costs of their operation.

Meals on Wheels in Graham was started over 50 years ago by a group of area church women delivering 20 meals three days a week. The organization targets individuals, primarily senior citizens, who are homebound because of medical, financial or other reasons.

“That was kind of always the target group that we were trying to serve, people that because of serious age-related illnesses and disabilities they are unable to get out and about to shop for food for themselves or if they got it, prepare it for themselves,” Graham Meals on Wheels Coordinator Gaye Monk said.

Currently the organization is serving 107 clients a day five days a week with 68 volunteers who are staff to help with the program. To join the program, eligible members must have a doctor send or fax an intake form to the Graham Senior Citizen Center.
