(THOMAS WALLNER | THE GRAHAM LEADER) After starting at The Graham Leader in April, Tristin Nugen has worked to help promote businesses throughout the area in her position as an advertising representative.
Despite making Graham her home less than one year ago, Tristin Nugen has established herself at The Graham Leader as a sales representative seeking to promote businesses around the area.
Nugen was born in Stephenville and grew up in Weatherford before making her stop in Graham.
What drew her to the sales position was a love of the newspaper industry and a drive to become a part of it.
“I’ve always thought the newspaper was cool. …I’ve always been interested in the press. I waited tables for a million years so I feel like I’m pretty good at sales,” Nugen said.
After starting in April, Nugen has traveled in and out of Young County seeking to promote businesses and individuals who are looking for a way to extend their reach.
“I like having a job where I can go places,” Nugen said. “I’m not really stuck here. There’s only a couple of times where I need to be here. I have a lot of freedom.”
Nugen said she is looking to create a connection with customers so they know who is handling their ads and can get a personal link.
Through this position she has been able to come closer to the community and make connections with customers.
“I love Graham and I love that there are still places like Graham that exist where it is so community-oriented,” Nugen said. “…If I get a flat tire, somebody is going to pull over and they are going to come over and help me change my tire. I think I was missing that community in Weatherford.”
Finding a position that fit her niche has been rewarding for Nugen who is pushing herself every day to exceed her goals.
“I try to set high personal goals so that if I don’t make those high personal goals I, at least, make the goals set here,” she said.
She said the position is one she is proud to be in while helping to grow something that will establish her future.
“I’ve found something I’m good at so it’s a confidence boost. I’ve found a direction I want to go with my career,” she said. “It feels more like a career than a job, which is nice.”
