Numbers ahead of projections for county hotel tax
Young County received the May installment of its hotel occupancy tax, which brought in $4,965.35, putting the county on pace to nearly double the earnings they had hoped for in March.
In December, Young County commissioners passed a resolution establishing a hotel occupancy tax of 5 percent in all incorporated areas to continue indefinitely after Jan. 1 unless voted down by a majority of the Commissioners Court. This tax currently only affects Wildcatter Ranch Resort and Spa.
Mike Sipes, Commissioner Precinct 1, said during a March interview he thought the county would bring in $24,000 for the year. The money is being used for a project at Fort Belknap. The nearly $5,000 collected Monday moves the total this year to $20,455.32, which puts the county on pace to nearly double the $24,000 estimate.
