Today is the final opportunity to vote early in Young County before election day.
Voting has been slow in the county with the first day of early voting having less than a 1% turnout with 65 voters.
The first week of early voting closed Friday, April 25 with a total turnout of 323 voters, or 3.3% of all registered county voters. As of the end of the day Monday, April 28 there was a total turnout of 484 voters, or or 4.9% of all registered county voters
After the first five days of early voting this week, the final two days of voting will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 28-29.
The city of Graham, Graham ISD and Newcastle ISD have contested elections after candidates filed for open seats on the city council and district board of trustees.
Early voting locations are the Young County Annex at 417 Second St. in Graham and First Baptist Church at 501 Graham St. in Newcastle.
The Newcastle location is only open for early voting April 28-29.
Election day voting will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at the Young County Annex and First Baptist Church in Newcastle.
Results of the election will be released following the end of poling Saturday.
Local Elections
City of Graham
The Graham City Council has two seats up for election in May which are held by Jack Little and Brant Lundgren.
Lundgren did not file for reelection for his Place 4 seat, with Brendan Weatherman being the sole filer for the position.
There will be an election for the Place 3 seat with Little filing for reelection and new candidate Chris Hatfield filing for the position.
Graham ISD
The Graham ISD Board of Trustees has three positions up for election in May which are held by Lauren Mahaney, Chris Blanton and Jason Smith.
Blanton and Smith were the sole filers for their Place 4 and Place 5 positions, respectively. There will be an election for the Place 3 position with Mahaney filing for reelection and new candidate Ellen Morris filing for the position.
Newcastle ISD
Newcastle ISD has two board members who are up for election in May which are Sam Creel and Dancey Creel.
Sam Creel is running again for his Place 4 seat and is joined by new candidates Robert Dotson and Pecos Bohannan.
Dancey Creel is also running again for her Place 5 seat, and will be joined by new candidates Tara Bickham and Nicholas Whitaker.
The Place 7 position on the board is also vacant and three candidates filed to run for that seat: Carla Short, Chevy Humphrey and Anneta Buenger.
