UPDATE (Monday, Aug. 18) - 7:02 p.m. - The Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers were called in to assist the Young County Sheriff’s Office with a shooting in Newcastle.
“The investigation revealed that two males living at the same address but in different residences had a dispute. During the dispute, one of the males shot the other,” DPS wrote in a release.
The male victim, Justin Garland, 35, of Graham, was being transported to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
Law enforcement officers located John Rogers, 70, of Graham, with a firearm in his possession. He was arrested on charges of murder and felon in possession of a firearm.
Rogers was booked into the Young County Jail and is being held on $1.03 million bond for both charges.
A suspect was arrested in a fatal shooting over the weekend in Newcastle.
At around 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, Young County first responders were dispatched to High Street in Newcastle for a shooting that involved two male individuals.
John Rogers, 70, was booked Sunday, Aug. 17 into the Young County Jail on a charge of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
As of Monday, Rogers remained in the Young County Jail on a total bond of $1.03 million.
Multiple attempts were made to obtain information regarding the shooting from law enforcement officials. No information was made available as of Monday afternoon. Information on the deceased was not released.
