Voting ended Tuesday in the runoff election for the March primaries with a low local turnout in Young County. A runoff election was held for the Democratic and Republican candidates in which no single candidate earned more than 50% of the vote in the March 1 primary election.

According to the unofficial results released by the Young County Election Administrator Kaitlyn Mosley, 803 votes were cast in the runoff election, or 6.85% of the 11,725 total registered voters in the county.

Early voting in the primary runoff election was held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20. The deadline to apply for a ballot by mail in the election was Friday, May 13. Election day voting was held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 24 at five voting locations around the county.

The last day to register to vote in the primary runoff election was Monday, April 25. Per state law, voters who cast a ballot in the primary election for a particular party, could only vote in that same party’s primary runoff election.
