The city of Graham and Young County have public hearings upcoming this month and next month for the budget and tax rate. 

The city of Graham will host two public hearings at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at the City Hall council chambers at 608 Elm St. The hearings are regarding the proposed budget as well as the increase in sewer connection charges, water tapping fees and wastewater and water service charges.

A proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year was adopted Thursday, July 18 by the Graham City Council, with recommended increases to the property tax rate, water rate and wastewater rate.

The proposed budget includes a recommendation to increase the property tax rate to a value of $0.665 per $100 of valuation from the current rate of $0.635 per $100 valuation, or a 4.72% increase.

A separate city public hearing will also be held on the property tax increase at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9 at the same council chambers location for the community to attend.

Young County is preparing to hold public hearings for its proposed 2024-2025 budget and tax rate. The proposed tax rate for the county is an increase of a little more than four cents over the current rate of $0.587674 per $100 valuation.

The public hearing is planned to be hosted at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26 at the Young County Commissioners Court meeting at the Young County Courthouse, 516 Fourth St., Room 106.

Young County commissioners recently discussed the proposed tax rate that will be in effect in the 2024-2025 fiscal year. The proposed tax rate is $0.63 per $100 valuation.
