The Region 9 Education Service Center was one of 40 entities to receive a Texas Workforce Commission grant to support Adult Education and Literacy.
The center, which serves Young County and 10 other counties in its service area, was recently awarded a grant of $606,622.
TWC awarded a total of $83,030,502 in grants through the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education.
“Each year more than 70,000 Texans enroll in adult education programs to help increase their earning potential in the Texas workforce,” said TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel. “These AEL (Adult Education and Literacy) programs are helping adult learners gain the skills they need for success.”
The grant funding will specifically enhance Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) programs such as High School Equivalency Preparation, Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education.
“Education is one of the most powerful tools to achieve career success and prosperity,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Joe Esparza. “The Texas Workforce Commission’s commitment to the education of all Texans not only strengthens our workforce system, but also Texas’ reputation as the best state for doing business.”
The Region 9 ESC Adult Education Center provides adults with a basic education to further their educational skills for literate functioning, participate in job training and retraining programs, obtain and retain employment and continue their education.
