Registration encouraged for Petroleum Tech program

Wed, 08/17/2016 - 6:00 am
Registration is still open for the Petroleum Technology Program at North Central Texas College Bowie Campus for the fall semester. The program offers industry-prescribed courses leading to either a two-year associate degree or a one-year certificate of completion. The program prepares students for entry-level careers in the oil and gas industry. “Our program covers topics from drilling to gas processing,” said Malea Clarke, Petroleum Technology Program chair. “Since we don’t know where students will end up in the oil and gas industry, our goal is to give them basic knowledge and skills to prepare them to succeed in any part of the industry.” “Students learn about the design, operation and maintenance of common oilfield equipment and how to work safely,” Clarke said. “We emphasize safety and teamwork throughout the program.” About 50 percent of the coursework consists of hands-on learning activities. “Our labs are equipped with a variety of equipment and tools that enable students to get hands-on experience with manual tools as well as high-tech equipment including computer simulations of oilfield processes,” Clarke said.
